Chapter 13: Songs of Love

C

Cinderella was in love with a Prince she thought she couldn’t have. That thought stung her to tears. But she got her prince in the end.

In your life, have you ever loved something so strongly that not having it made you cry?

Crying is a sure sign that you are really alive. If you spend a year without crying for something it means you are not desiring enough.

Like the saying goes: “Most times it’s not like we dream big and fail; rather we dream small and win.”

When your desires are small, then your success at them will mean nothing big to you.

Desire something so big that you feel small; only then do you begin to grow.

Desire something so deeply that it makes you cry; only then do you begin to be strong.

Fall in love with something. Life always boils down to one thing – what do you love?

Career

If it’s choosing a career, ask yourself – What do I love?

More than a third of your adult lifetime will be spent at work. Your career might get so busy that you might not even find time to retire.

Following your passion is not a luxury. It is a decision that determines if a third of your lifetime will be happy or sad.

You can be good at doing what you dislike – but you cannot be excellent. It takes obsession to be awesome at something.

The world is not looking for good workers either; it’s looking for excellent workers.

We look for high-paying careers because we think there is security… but real security comes when you can do a job so brilliantly that no one can replace you.

If you love it you will practice it till you are exceptional; if you don’t love it every moment of practice will make you wish you were somewhere else.

Business

If you are starting or wishing you could start up a business… ask yourself – What do you love?

If a job takes up much of your lifetime, running a business will only take up more.

Frankly speaking – a business will be the second spouse you will ever marry. And if you are single – then your business will be your first love.

It will demand its own Valentine and birthday presents, and if you take too long without contact – consider it a break-up.

Business will demand you to sleep at work sometimes – and it hurts to sleep with someone you hate.

If you didn’t love your girlfriend or boyfriend do you think he/she would hang around for long? Never! No need to fool yourself.

The same goes for a business starved of your love for too long – your competitors snatch it from you.

I was studying the lives of millionaires this other day, and I realized a trend in how most of their business lives began.

They chose what they loved doing, and they kept doing it until losses turned into overflowing profits.

Do you want to be rich? Do you want to run a business that ever thrives and never fails?

Here is an irrefutable tip: Choose what you love to do and find a way to make money doing it!

If you were to be never paid for what you do – what would you spend all your life doing? Whatever it is – that’s it! Go start doing it right now… and please this time place a price tag!

Most people don’t know how to price-tag themselves.

Ask Uncle Google right now, and you will find there are countless people on the internet making fortunes from exactly what you love.

Sadly, they are not even doing it as beautifully as you can – but definitely, they are making more money doing it than you are.

Marriage

If you marry between age twenty-three to twenty-eight, and vow “till death do us part” do you understand you are vowing that a greater part of your lifetime will be spent with your spouse more than all the time you spent single, with your parents and your siblings combined?

Do I really have to tell you that you should marry who you love? Nah!

I really think my first book How I Kissed Heartbreak Goodbye said everything!

But I don’t know what I love

Oh yes, I understand you perfectly! There is so much to do that you don’t know what to do first.

And you have been busy with everything so much that you left yourself out.

You are a hard worker, my friend, so much that when it’s for others you give it your best and when it comes to you – well, you would already be too worn out to take your heart seriously.

But as I said in my book The Stranger in the Mirror,

“The most successful people in life are not those who have read books only, but those who have read themselves.”

– MOFFAT MACHINGURA | The Stranger in the Mirror

That means you have to take time and ask yourself – what do I love to do?

Love has got telltale signs. You don’t have to think, you just have to observe.

Look at those things that when you begin to do you lose track of time.

Or those things that you find yourself most curious about.

Things about which you always wish to stay up to date.

And there are those things that no matter how long someone takes doing them, to you nobody ever does them right.

Know what? It’s because that’s what you love doing.

Sometimes we keep doing what we love even if we are not yet good at it.

It’s because though the failures might remind you of your weaknesses, the job itself reminds you of yourself.

It makes you feel you are you when you are busy at it. Those are the telltale signs that you have found your love.

As the founder and CEO of Apple Computer and Pixar Animation Studios, Steve Jobs, would say,

“I was lucky — I found what I loved to do early in life… The only way to do great work is to love what you do.

.

If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.

.

As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find1 it.”

– STEVE JOBS

Life Plays Love Songs

No wonder the first paradise was a delicious fruit orchard with mangoes, apples, strawberries, and juicy litchi. Life is like a fruit garden, you can’t have it all – but what you love will decide what you pick.

And when the fruit is out of reach it’s life asking how high you are willing to climb for what you love.

How wide an ocean can you cross to get what you love? That will tell how much you love what you think you love.

Cinderella was in love with a Prince out of reach. She was entangled by a desire she did not seem to deserve.

But love knows no distance. When you decide what you love your mind will devise a means to get there.

There sitting beside the cold dusty fireplace with her grey tattered dress drenched in a waterfall of tears – suddenly there was a light in the sky.

Magic appeared and turned Cinderella’s life around.

Where there is love there are always great miracles.

Are you loving something so high that it keeps you looking up? Keep looking up because there is always an answer.

One day you will see a light in your sky and find yourself singing that Celine Dion song:

“Hush now I see a light in the sky Oh it’s almost blinding me

.

I can’t believe I’ve been touched by an angel with love

.

Let the rain come down and wash away my tears Let it fill my soul and drown my fears

.

Let it shatter the walls for a new sun A new day has come”

Too good to be true? Yes, that’s why it’s called a love song. Life has got a part of it that when it happens, it feels too good to be true.

You cannot place miracles on your budget, but miracles do happen.

All I can promise you is: when it seems like there is no way – there is a way that does not seem like a way.

When the path you are on does not seem to lead to your dreams, change your path don’t change your dreams.

Now that love has you married to your dreams, keep that ring on your finger – remember it gets better with time.

The best way to kill your dream would be to try to find another.
